This week friday night football regular season comes to an end.  What a season congratulations to all the players of the week.  Now its time to think post-season time to think player of the year, team of the year, coach of the year.  You should see these trophies. It was a great season Coach Turk really knows what he”s talking about!!!! Big Ups to the Big homie!

This week the Winston-Salem Police Deparrtment mourned at the lost of their very own.   Twenty-Seven year veteran Sgt Mckey Hutchens lost his life in the line of duty.   Sargeant Hutchens took the oath to protect and serve the community, the very same oath every police officer takes knowing that any day they may never go home to their famlies again.  The family of the alleged suspect, Monte Evans, paid their respects to Sgt Hutchens at  his patrol car, a memorial his family set up, and ask the community for forgiveness, a burden I feel is way too much for them to bare. Not for one moment do I believe that they deserve to be held accountable for what their love one did, but it speaks volume about this family and the community as a whole. All this week since the death of Sgt Hutchens all I heard was nothing but unity from all parts of the comunity and asking for prayers for all those who were involved in this tragedy. This week  after dinner in downtown Winston-Salem I saw a patrol car in the parking lot.   I walked over to the two officers inside and said “Thank you for all that you do and sorry for the lost.”  I extended my hand and they both held it, fighting back their raw emotions.  They said “Thank you so much.  This community has been so good to us in our lost and it makes us proud to serve.”   At that moment, I said “Having you say that makes me proud that you and others like you are serving this community.”

Before the Ftiday Nite Football season started Coach Turk said my old high school Ben L. Smith was gonna be playoff bound.  I felt like he was picking on me because despite the thirty-two game losing streak, I still pull for the Eagles!  I said “if Smith wins 4 games then I will throw the school a concert.  Now as of last night Smith has won 4 games!!!!!

The video images of a young honor student from Chicago being beaten to death has followed me to sleep for the past few nights. Images that will dim after sometime, but the still images will haunt me forever. Derrion Albert’s life was taken away because he was doing the right thing. Getting good grades in school, loving his family, staying away from drugs, and refusing to join a street gang. For hours and I mean hours I was trying to come up with the words to relay to our young brothers and sisters about the senseless violence they impose on each other but I could not. However, Nas wrote an open letter that spoke for all of us that are mad,worried, and most of all scared of what is becoming of our youth:
